Let’s get straight into the topic. There are two or more people in the collab post on Instagram but everyone has this doubt whether everyone in the collab can boost a post or not. But don’t worry, we’ll break it down clearly for you.
In this blog, we’ll explain how boosting works for Instagram collab posts or reels from two perspectives:
- The original profile that created and posted the content
- The profile(s) invited as collaborators
In order to boost post or reel on Instagram in either way your account should be creator or business account type. Personal account can’t boost post on Instagram.
1. For the Original Profile (Post Creator)
If you’re the one who created the post or reel and invited others to collaborate, you’re considered the original poster. You can have the following access
- You can promote the post via the Boost Post button directly from the Instagram app.
- You can’t promote the post via ads manager without getting permission from the collaborator (which is considered as partnership ads, will explain in detail below)
- If the invited account was a personal account, you can’t run ads with that post via ads manager but you can boost post via Instagram app.
How To Boost a Collab Post on Ads Manager (If Both Accounts are Business or Creator) – Partnership Ads
As an original poster, you can boost post directly from Instagram app even if the invited account was business or creator. But, how to promote that collab post via ads manager. This is not very complicated as you think, you simply need to get permission from the partner.
There are two ways you can do this,
1st Method: Getting Permission Directly from Ads Creation Page
- Start by creating your campaign as usual — select your objective, define your audience, placements, and budget as per your strategy.
- In the Ad Setup section, instead of selecting “Create Ad,” choose “Use Existing Post.”
- From the list of posts, select the collaborative post that you created with the partner professional account.
- Once you select the post, you may see a warning message at the top:
“Your collaborator hasn’t granted you permission to run partnership ads.” - Just below this message, you’ll find the option to “Request Partner Permission.”
Click it to send a request. - This request will be sent to your collaborator via Instagram Direct Message.
- After your collaborator accepts the request, refresh the Ads Manager page.
The error message will disappear. - Now you’re all set! You can publish your ad and run the collab post as a Partnership Ad without any issues.
Pro Tip:
- This works only if your collaborator has a professional account (Creator or Business).
- The process ensures that both profiles are authorized participants in the ad.
- Always confirm with your partner that they’ve approved the request before launching the ad.
- Once you partner given approval for the request, you can use any other post for the ad even the post in which the partner is not a collaborator. It’s simply like he given approval to use his profile for any of your ad and you can only use the content which you posted originally on your profile.
2nd Method: Use the Partnership Ads Hub to Get Partners Approval
This method via the Partnership Ads Hub is ideal. Follow these steps:
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Access the Partnership Ads Hub
- Go to Meta Business Suite or Ads Manager
- Click on “All Tools” and find “Partnership Ads Hub”
- Add Your Partner
- In the Partners section, click “Add Partnership”
- Choose whether to add a Facebook Page or Instagram profile
- Enter your collaborator’s profile details
- Send the Request
- Meta will ask you to select your own Facebook or Instagram account (that will run the ad)
- Click “Send Request”
- Wait for Partner Approval
- The request is sent to your partner for approval
- Once approved, go back to the Partnership Ads Hub and refresh the page
- You’ll see the status as “Active” next to your partner’s name
- Create a Campaign
- Now go to Ads Manager and create a new campaign
- Set your objective, audience, placements, and budget as usual
- Enable Partnership Ads in Ad Setup
- In the Ad Setup section, turn on the toggle for “Partnership Ads”
- Select Your Partner
- Under Partnership Ads, choose “Select Partnership”
- Your approved partner’s profile will appear — select it
- Now both your profile and your partner’s profile will show in the ad preview
- Create Your Ad
- You can now:
- Create a new ad using fresh creative assets
- Or use an existing post (even if it’s not a collab post with the partner)
- You can now:
- Publish Your Ad
- After setting everything up, simply click Publish to launch your partnership ad!
Pro Tip:
This method is perfect if:
- Your collaborator is not in the original post
- You want more flexibility to create new creatives while still tagging the partner brand/account
- You want to pre-approve multiple collaborators in advance for smoother workflows

How to Boost a Collab Post as the Collaborator (Invited Account) on Ads Manager
If you’ve been added as a collaborator on a post or reel on Instagram or Facebook, and you want to boost that content from your account — yes, it’s possible. But there’s one important requirement:
You won’t see the “Boost Post” button on Instagram for posts where you are just the collaborator (i.e., you didn’t publish the post yourself).
To promote such a collab post, the only way is through Meta Ads Manager using Partnership Ads. To run this partnership ads, you need to get permission from the original publisher of the post. There are two ways to get the permission.
Types of Permissions You Can Use to Run Partnership Ads:
1. Account-Level Permission (Via Partnership Ads Hub)
This works similarly to the second method described earlier (used by the original poster).
Here’s how it works for collaborators:
- Go to Meta Business Suite or Ads Manager
- Open All Tools > Partnership Ads Hub
- Click “Add Partnership” and send a request to the original poster’s Facebook Page or Instagram profile
- Once your request is approved, you gain account-level access to run ads
What You Can Do After Approval:
- Run ads using new creatives (images or videos) from your account
- Boost existing collaborative posts you were tagged in
- The original poster doesn’t need to create or approve each ad individually — once you have account-level permission, you can run multiple ads until the approval is revoked
Important Note:
As a collaborator, even after account-level approval, you can only run ads for posts where you’re actually a collaborator. You cannot promote posts where you’re not tagged as a collaborator, even if the original creator granted permission.
2. Content Level Permission (From Original Poster)
If you’re the collaborator (invited account) and want to run an ad using a collab post created by someone else, you’ll need content-level permission. This must be granted by the original creator of the post.
You can simply share the steps below with the original poster so they can enable the required settings:
Step-by-Step for the Original Creator:
- Enable Branded Content Tools on Instagram:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Go to Settings > Business Tools & Controls (or Creator Tools & Controls, depending on your profile type).
- Tap Branded Content.
- If eligible, toggle on “Enable branded content tools.”
- Generate the Partnership Ad Code:
- Go to the post or reel you want to promote.
- Tap the three dots (…) on the top-right corner of the post.
- Choose “Partnership label and ads.”
- Enable “Add paid partnership label” and then tap “Get Partnership Ad Code.”
- Copy the generated ad code and share it with the collaborator (you).
- Use the Ad Code in Ads Manager:
- Now, as the collaborator, go to Meta Ads Manager and create a campaign.
- In the Ad Setup section, enable the Partnership Ads toggle.
- Select the option to “Use post code” and paste the code you received.
- You can now run the collab post as a Partnership Ad from your own ad account.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q1. How to boost a collab post if I’m not the original creator of the post?
If you’re the collaborator (invited account), you cannot directly promote the post on Instagram but you can promote through ads manager by getting permission from the original creator. You can do this in two ways:
- Content-Level Permission: Ask the original poster to generate a Partnership Ad Code and share it with you.
- Account-Level Permission: Request access via the Partnership Ads Hub in Meta. Once approved, you can run ads with the collab post or create new ads using your partner’s profile.
Q2. How to boost a collab post on Instagram?
If you are the original creator of the collab post, you can easily boost it through the Instagram app. Tap the Boost Post button on the collab content, choose your audience and budget, and publish the ad. The ad will show both your profile and the collaborator’s profile.
Q3. Can I use an existing post as an ad if I’m the collaborator?
Yes, but you need the original creator’s permission. You can do this by:
- Getting a Partnership Ad Code from the original poster.
- Receiving Account-Level Approval through Meta’s Partnership Ads Hub.
Q4. What is the difference between Account-Level and Content-Level Permission for Partnership Ads?
- Account-Level Permission: Allows you to run ads using your partner’s profile on any post or new creative, even if it’s not a collab post (for original publisher). This is managed through the Partnership Ads Hub.
- Content-Level Permission: Only gives you access to promote a specific collab post using a unique Ad Code shared by the original creator.
Q5. Can I run Partnership Ads for a new ad creative and still tag a partner?
Yes. Once the partner has given you Account-Level Permission, you can run ads using fresh creative (images or videos) and still tag the partner’s profile. This works well for campaign flexibility.
Q6. Can I boost a collab post from Meta Ads Manager instead of Instagram app?
Yes. Using Meta Ads Manager gives you more control over targeting, placements, and budget. Just make sure you’ve received either Content-Level or Account-Level permission from your collaborator before running the ad.
Q7. What is a Partnership Ad on Facebook (Meta)?
A Partnership Ad on Facebook (also known as a Branded Content Ad) is a type of ad that allows one business or creator to run ads using another profile’s content — with permission. It’s commonly used when two accounts collaborate on a post (like a brand and an influencer). This type of ad displays both profiles in the ad, improving trust, transparency, and engagement with shared audiences.
